Specific Need

Grow Green Match Day is one of Manhattan Emergency Shelter's favorite days of the year!

The donations gathered from Grow Green Match Day go directly toward operating the emergency shelter!

Through Grow Green Match Day we are able to:

pay our utilities
pay our insurance
pay our overnight staff
maintain the cameras and security systems that keep our clients and staff safe

We also use Grow Green Match Day to grow our endowment, which ensures the long-term operational security of the Manhattan Emergency Shelter and allows us to continue serving the community even when times get rough! Without Grow Green Match Day, MESI wouldn't be able to help the most vulnerable members of this community thrive. We are so grateful to be a part of this incredible event!

At Manhattan Emergency Shelter, Inc. we believe that all people are valuable members of the human family. We believe that all people are both worthy and capable of respect, dignity, and the self sufficiency required to thrive. It is with this spirit that the Manhattan Emergency Shelter, Inc. provides safe shelter and housing stabilization services for the homeless individuals and families of Manhattan. Our goal is to uplift and support the most vulnerable members of our community by providing a safe and nurturing transitional shelter environment, case management, and housing stabilization services for the unhoused individuals of Manhattan and beyond.

You'll never see the faces of our clients here or on any of MESI's social media pages, and you'll never hear their names. Anonymity is one of the best gifts we can give those we serve through our case management and rehousing programs. Because many of the Manhattan Emergency Shelter's staff have experienced severe poverty and homelessness first hand, we know exactly what kind of toll it can take on the mind, body, and spirit. The recovery process for mental health struggles, addiction, and trauma are all beautifully messy- there are no straight lines, and at MESI we believe that clients are entitled to that journey in safety, dignity, and privacy.

For that reason, we have no photos or videos of our served clientele to share. It wouldn't feel right for us to raise money off of their struggles. We hope you understand! In lieu of client videos, we thought we'd let you get to know our staff- hopefully they'll be able tell you a little bit about what MESI means to us!
